Our Credo
(“credo” means a statement of the beliefs that guide someone’s actions)
Recovery is made possible when:
- We actively listen to and validate the stories of each Recoveree. When we show genuine interest in their lives, we will see evidence of growth in the Recoveree’s self-worth and confidence. Self-worth and confidence are essential to realizing change.
- We are respectful, fair and consistent in all our dealings with each Recoveree whom we are called to serve. The work we do depends on our ability to earn trust which cannot take root without respect and fair and consistent treatment to all. We disavow any act that may humiliate, regardless of the intention.
- We help each Recoveree, through our daily efforts, re-discover their gifts, skills, strengths, abilities and purpose for living. We will search to unearth those positive qualities. We will seek opportunities to grow them through positive reinforcement.
- We establish a trusting relationship with the Recoveree, a relationship on which the Recoveree can depend. Today and every day we will strive to be trustworthy and responsive to the needs of those with whom we are sharing a recovery partnership.
We believe:
- Hope is the cornerstone of all human healing; one cannot instill both hope and fear. We stand for hope.
- No person in treatment shall ever be subjected to seclusion, restraint, learning experiences or any form of punishment. To do so may serve to further traumatize, dehumanize and alienate Recoverees who have already suffered enough – our kindness, patience, caring and partnership will make each whole again.
- The agency’s provision of nutrition, medical attention, visitation and communication with family, social rehabilitation events, the opportunity to freely worship and to express one’s thoughts respectfully within the Liberation community are rights that apply to all.
