Celebration of Life and New Beginnings

On April 6, 2010, Liberation Programs held its second annual Celebration of Life and New Beginnings graduation.  The celebration is an agency-wide recognition of individuals who successfully achieve sobriety and self-sufficiency. The celebration also helps to put a face on recovery and to combat stigma surrounding the disease of addiction.

Liberation Programs is grateful to David L. Levinson, Ph.D., President of Norwalk Community College, for graciously hosting the ceremony in the college's PepsiCo Theater. Dr. Levinson opened the door to education by extending an invitation to the graduates to use the College as a stepping stone to help them on their new path. Opening greetings were offered by Norwalk's Mayor Richard Moccia. Mayor Moccia, a long-time friend to the agency and recovery advocate, praised the graduates for accomplishing an amazing feat that will positively change their lives. During the commencement address, Liberation Programs' Chairperson, Debra Hertz, Ph.D., conveyed the importance of each sober day and inspired the graduates to be proud of every milestone.

"A sober day will lead to another sober day, which will lead to a sober week,
a sober month, a sober year, and ultimately, a lifetime of sobriety."

Graduates received their certificate of achievement in the presence of their friends, family members, counselors and community supporters who attended the event to take part in a true celebration of life and new beginnings.
